Painting Clouds
Here is an example of what we will be making.

Now I'm sure you've all seen the cloud render tutorials, nothing against them... but the main thing they lack is that they are completely random and they lack realism. Using this tutorial you will be able to make a cloud in any shape you want.

1. Make a new doccument, any size. I used 600x600.
 a. Set your forground color to 78B4F2
 b. Set your background color to 003E7D
 c. Select the gradient tool and click the bottom of the doccument and drag it upward until you reach the top.

2. Selecting your brush.
 a. Set your forground color to FFFFFF.
 b. Select a soft 100 pixel brush.
 c. Click the Brushes tab on the top menu.
 Screen Shot
 d. Check the Texture box and use these settings.
 Screen Shot
 e. Set the opacity of your brush to 30%.

3. Painting begins...
 a. Make a new layer and title it Cloud.
 b. Begin painting a blob, do not lift your brush (do not unclick).
 Screen Shot
 c. Repeat step 3a, but do not go all the way to the edges in some parts of the shape.
 Screen Shot
 d. Again, repeat step 3a and stay even further from the edges.
 Screen Shot
 e. Start painting some what randomly, but stay inside or close to the original shape. This will add depth to your cloud.
 f. Taper it off towards the sides of the cloud.
 Screen Shot

4. File > Save

Finished!

Rendering clouds sucks. They are completely random...

Try using a darker shade and just paint lots of layers over it. Or make a mask and brush out some areas so they are less visible, making them appear darker.

Please. Rendered clouds are a joke. I don't write tutorials to teach a specific effect you jackass.

My tutorial teaches you a brushing technique. For example, using the same brushing technique, you can make trees, nebulas, even photo manipulation like putting a hole in some ones throat.

If you use the same technique, but add more layers... and mask some out, you can make photo realistic clouds. I was pretty busy when I wrote the tutorial and kind of just wanted to get it out ASAP. I suppose I could go back and add on to it, but maybe later.

All you have to do is get a blue and paint over the middle, then repeat all of the steps but lower on the canvas.
