Making a Mountain in Bryce
In this tutorial I’m going to explain the basics of making a mountain.
It's my first extensive tut so I might have made some mistakes, if you find them just PM me.
step 1There a 2 ways to create a mountain.
First there’s the basic mountain. Just click on the icon and voila.

The other option is making a more specific mountain.
For this press the little triangle next to create.

Now go to mountain and select the mountain of your liking.
I’m using “Vulcano” for the rest of this tutorial as it is easy editable.
step 2Now lets give our mountain some colour shall we.
Press the little triangle next to edit to bring op the materials menu.
Go to Planes and Terrains and pick a nice texture.
I’m using whole mountain as I just like it =)

In the upper left corner you should see a coloured preview of your mountain.
To see it you like the colour you could make a quick render by pressing “ctrl + R”

You can also cycle the view around by using the trackingball and the camera tools
step 3Now let’s give the mountain a personal touch.
Press on edit (not the triangle) and you should see a taskbar like this

Now select your mountain and click the most right icon to sculpt the mountain

Now let’s look at the possibilities:
1: these are the tools used to sculpt.
- The top tool is the actual brush. You can change it’s size by clicking it and then dragging.
- The second tool is the hardness of the brush. Change it like you changed the brush.
- I honestly don’t know the function of the third…sorry :x
- With next tool you can set the height with which we’ll be sculpting
- And as for the last tool, you can set the resolution of the picture.
2:This is a 3d model of your current mountain in realtime. You can drag it around to see it from different angles
3: With these tools you can finetune your mountain. For instance adding erosion, or making it more smooth.
Experiment with this and if you don’t like it (just look at the render top right) just press the X in the lower right corner and start over or press old faithful “ctrl + Z”
additional steps Now that we’ve made a mountain you can resize it using the little dots around the mountain when selected, using the X,Y and Z coordinates, or just scale it proportionally by using the little squares at the top and lower corners.
This concludes this tutorial about making mountains. Next time we’ll add some sky.
