Sprilly Ball in Cinema 4D
Hello, Today I'm going to show you how to make your own "sprilly" ball like the one in the downloads section. It is a very basic tutorial that goes over some key things in Cinema 4d that you will use later on in your works.
First start out by opening C4D obviously. Now click on the cube on the top toolbar and select the spherical object. This tutorial goes into basic use of the sphere, but theres ALOT of things you will use this mundane shape for.
Screen ShotNow hit the letter "C" and click into the polygon mode.
Screen ShotOnce your in polygon mode. Go to Structure->Matrix Extrude. Matrix extrude is your friend.. you will almost always use this to make all that cool abstract stuff. Because this is a very basic tutorial I'm not going to really go into it much rather than a few things you should input.
Screen ShotNow input the numerical values like shown in the picture.( these are definatley arent set in stone. Play around with EVERYTHING, who knows what kinda cool stuff you can get)
Screen ShotNow click the Nurbs button at the top near the Cube that you clicked on earlier. Click the one in the picture. Drag your layer underneath it like shown in the picture.
Screen ShotNow we will load the materials, assuming you do not know how to make your own yet. Click on the File menu of the materials section at the bottom shown in the picture and select Load Materials. You should have it open up into the C4D folder with materials, and choose "cheen", if this selection is not there, make sure you are in the Materials Folder in the C4D folder found in Progam Files.
Screen ShotYou should now have a bunch of little spherical shapes with different colors. Drag and Drop the Mirror material over the "sphere" layer. A little sphere with that material should appear, and the color of your object should change.
Screen ShotNow double click the mirror material, and a dialouge box like the one in the picture should show up. Uncheck the "reflection" selection and it should look like the picture now. Why? you ask, well first of all, rendering it will take alot longer since there are so many little appendages that will be reflected, and also the fact that it will end up looking bad if you dont.
Screen ShotNow Click the Preview button like in the diagram below, and your done. I will write another tutorial later on, on how to save and edit your renders.
